Introduction vs Conclusion

A conclusion paragraph should include:

the summary statement--one or two sentences which restate the thesis in a FRESH way to reinforce the essay's main idea

the clincher--a final thought which should leave a lasting impression on the reader

Check out these examples to see whether they are good conclusions:

EXAMPLE 1:

Creon's punishment was that even though in the end he tried to change his decision to have Antigone killed she ended up committing suicide. Haemon soon followed her and then Eurydice, Creon's wife, depressed from the loss of her son sacrificed herself at the alter. He learned that one can not alter fate, or self govern and that a leader should listen to others instead of just his own thoughts. Creon soon realized that a person cannot alter their fate, and should listen to the advice of others before it is too late.  Many tried to alter his decision and persuade him to alter it, when Creon finally did it was all too late. For these reason Creon deserved the consequence he received even though it was a harsh one.

EXAMPLE 2:

In summation by the actions of Creon it can be proven that he was neither loved nor feared by the people of Thebes. He was disrespected by Antigone and his laws were a joke. He was too harsh to the point where he was disliked and this only led to hi misfortune. His family committed suicide and he had no other reason to live. He did not find himself fit to rule anymore so he sent himself to exile. This could of all been prevented if he acted as a human and put himself in other peoples shoes and took Machiavelli’s idea of a leader in consideration.

EXAMPLE 3:

As stated before these two, Antigone and Creon have displayed great pride and ignorance in different ways, but were similar in their acts of showing it. By Antigone and Creon showing pride and ignorance really made everyone see that what they said they was going to do they did. It showed that they were serious about what they believed in and nothing could change that.

EXAMPLE 4:

In summation, there are distinctive qualities within the personality of Antigone that cause her to be revealed as a woman of virtue. She was brave even when the powers of authority were against her and she was faithful to Polynices to the very end. Antigone was also a woman of prudence and had great insight about what was just. Last but not least, Antigone exemplified what it means to have morals and how to stand up for what she believed was right, even when others around her thought that she was wrong.
