A General Essay Outline You May Wish to Use...

 

Paragraph 1 (Introduction):

·         Attention-grabbing statement (preferably not a question)

·         THESIS (and you need to underline it)

·         Preview of major supporting reasons that will prove your thesis (sometimes called a "map")

Paragraph 2-4,5,6 (Body Paragraphs):

·         Statement of the major reason to be discussed in the paragraph

·         Evidence to back up the major reason

·         Citation from works studied

·         Connection back to the thesis

Last Paragraph (Conclusion):

·         Restatement (in a new way) of thesis

·         Review of your major supporting reasons

·       Final thought to leave your readers thinking (preferably not a question)
